HIST 40743: The History of Texas

 
  This is an upper-level undergraduate survey of Texas History, from the pre-Columbian era to the present.

  This is a required course for PhD students designed to furnish them with the practical skills needed to become effective teachers, researchers, and colleagues at the collegiate level, and also to introduce them to professional history careers outside of academe.

HIST 70603: Seminar in US History: Readings in Early American History, Beginnings to 1877

 
  The purpose of this course is to introduce students to a broad range of the scholarly literature on American history from pre-Columbian times through Reconstruction.  Readings have been chosen because of their importance in shaping a major historiographical school of thought on a given subject, or they stand as a representative work of a major school, or they are otherwise important for methodological reasons.

HIST 70603: Seminar in US History: Readings in Texas History

 
  The purpose of this is course is to introduce students to a broad range of the recent scholarly literature on Texas history from the earliest European contacts to the present. The assigned books, none of which is older than fifteen years, meet one or more of the following criteria: (1) They are methodologically innovative; (2) they put forward an innovative or important new interpretation; and/or (3) they stand as an example of a Texas book that illustrates an important recent trend in, or makes an important contribution to, national historiography.
